Kampuchea Action to Promote Education (KAPE) continues to solidify its role as a key player in the advancement of educational technology in Cambodia. As part of its ongoing commitment to innovation, KAPE recently sent two key representatives—Mr. Ul Run, Senior National Advisor, and Mr. Sar Sophanak, Project Coordinator—to attend the 1st Regional Policy Meeting of the ASEAN Readiness Project on Artificial Intelligence (AI). The event took place from February 12 to 14, 2025, at the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia.

A Landmark Event for AI Readiness in ASEAN

The prestigious conference, organized by the ASEAN Foundation and sponsored by Google.org, marked a significant step toward AI readiness in the region. The event was officially opened by H.E. Nararya S. Soeprapto, ASEAN Deputy Secretary-General for Community and Corporate Affairs, who launched the AI Ready ASEAN Project—a regional initiative aimed at enhancing AI literacy and fostering the responsible use of AI among educators, youth, and policymakers.

The AI Ready ASEAN Project seeks to equip participants with the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively integrate AI into educational and policy frameworks. By doing so, it aligns with the broader goals of digital transformation and 21st-century skill development across ASEAN nations.

KAPE’s Role in AI Integration for Cambodian Education

As a project implementation partner in Cambodia, KAPE's participation in this forum was of paramount importance. The event provided Mr. Ul Run and Mr. Sar Sophanak with an invaluable opportunity to gain insights from leading AI experts, policymakers, and multidisciplinary stakeholders. Their participation is expected to further strengthen cooperation on AI integration in Cambodia's education system, enabling KAPE to lead in advancing AI literacy and implementing responsible AI practices in schools.

The conference featured a series of regional policy dialogues, capacity-building workshops, and hands-on AI training sessions at Google's headquarters in Indonesia. These sessions provided participants with practical exposure to the latest AI advancements and their applications in education.

A Strategic Step Towards Cambodia’s Digital Transformation

With the rapid evolution of AI in education, KAPE's involvement in this high-profile event marks a strategic move towards the adoption of AI-driven educational solutions in Cambodia. The organization’s engagement aligns with national efforts to promote equitable access to technology and innovative learning experiences for students and educators.

By integrating AI into Cambodia’s education system, KAPE is contributing to a future where AI-powered learning tools enhance teaching methodologies, foster digital inclusivity, and equip Cambodian students with essential skills for the 21st century. This initiative supports the broader digital transformation agenda in Cambodia and the ASEAN region, ensuring that AI becomes a force for positive and inclusive educational development.

As KAPE continues its work in AI adoption, the insights gained from the ASEAN AI Readiness Meeting will undoubtedly play a pivotal role in shaping future policies and projects aimed at fostering AI literacy and ethical AI use in Cambodian schools.
