Parent Show and Student Achievement Fair at Preak Leap Upper Secondary School

New Generation School (NGS) Initiative of Preak Leap Upper Secondary School hosted its annual parent show and student achievement fair in June 2023 under the Presidency H.E. Vong Phirun, the Undersecretariat of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport and the adviser of New Generation School, and the presence of NGS' Board of Directors, Kampuchea Action to Promote Education (KAPE), development partners, parents, teachers, and other relevant stakeholders.

 

This event was celebrated on 10 June 2023 in aiming to hold the achievement fair of the students in project work including clubs and study research for presenting to the parents and guardians to better see, learn and make communications between school and communities.

 

"For the student achievement of this academic year 2023, my school consists of a total of 311 projects and 16 study clubs that are exhibited to parents and the public to better understand the new generation school activities and students' achievement creativities. In the many years so far, the school has achieved many achievements such as good student results, the reduced repetition rate, fewer dropout rates, the more comfortable classrooms, adequate teaching and learning materials, a modern library, a computer lap for researching, a meeting hall and a vehicle park. The new teaching methods with technical support from KAPE that has worked closely with the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to Improve the quality of education through the New Generation School Initiative. By seeing all of these, I would like to thank all the parents, guardians, students and the community who have contributed in various ways to support and ensure the sustainability of the New Generation School Initiative," said Mr. Chhom Sopeak, the Director of Preak Leap Upper Secondary School during he gave his speech to the event.

 

"The New Generation School is a reform initiative of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport to establish an autonomous public school with the rights to innovate and improve the quality of education. During the initiative implementation, NGS always brings good study and study exchanges by transferring teachers to go visiting schools abroad for having opportunity to learn new knowledge and experiences, encouraging them to have critical thinking skills, creative activities for teaching and learning in the classrooms with good methods to apply for their schools. So, this is making the new generation school initiative stands out at the national level," said Mr. Hin Simhuon, KAPE's vice executive director and NGS' Coordinator.

 

His Excellency Vong Phirun, Undersecretary of State for the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sports and NGS' Adviser , said that NGS is very modern and different from other schools because it consists of teachers who uses integrated methods to encourage the students actively join the class activities by focusing on groups to implement project work and clubs. The teachers have duties and responsibilities to introduce and orient the students to achieve their work. This is why New Generation School is extraordinary. H.E. Vong Phirun continued that Preak Leap Upper Secondary School has been fast developed and able to ensure that its initiative is sustainable because it has been happened by the efforts of the director/vice director, teachers and school management committee, parents, communities through their budget contributions to school.

 

New Generation School Initiative has been set up in Preak Leap Secondary School since the academic year 2017-2018 by starting Grade 7 to Grade 9 and expended to Grade 12 in the academic year 2021-202 to the present.​ Since 2014, New Generation School has been implemented by KAPE and funded by the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport.
