For the past three years the Beacon School Initiative (BSI) has been transforming its 3 target Schools to a new generation of schools with high quality learning standards, strong governance and professional development of teachers.

From 11 to 13 November 2013 BSI Project Team, through assistance from VSO, Cambodia conducted a Stakeholder Study tour to Wat Bo, a state school whose programs are based on good governance and principled applications of what the children and the country need. Participants included parents, community members, school administrators, teachers and student representatives.

The tour was designed to give stakeholders new ideas on school operations and development; understand and learn more about how cooperation and support of the parents and communitymotivates student learning and how their support helps ensure programs continue to be sustained and developed.

Action plans to implement new learning and to develop community involvement will be implemented and further developed over the coming weeks and months.

During the visit, stakeholders were also able to take the opportunity to visit the National Museum in Siem Reap, a state of the art museum, to learn more about their country’s history.
