On 25-27 June 2018, KAPE hosted a visit of representatives from the Franks Family Foundation (FFF) in both Phnom Penh and Kampong Cham Province. FFF representatives from London included Ms. Vanhlee Lattana, the new Foundation Director and Mr. Andrew Hamilton, Program Manager for New Generation Schools in the Lao People’s Democratic Republic. The purpose of the visit was to learn more about the progress of implementation of KAPE’s New Generation School Program, which uses FFF funds as an essential source of support along with direct funding from the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport. New Generation Schools are Cambodian Charter Schools that have received autonomy from the Ministry in order to promote innovation and 21st Century learning standards.

The Foundation visited several New Generation School sites in Cambodia that are supported through KAPE including Sisovath HS (Phnom Penh), Prek Leap HS (Phnom Penh), Prek Anchanh HS (Kandal), and Hun Sen Kampong Cham HS (Kampong Cham). The Foundation is trying to expand the NGS model that has worked so well in Cambodia to Laos and will accordingly be hosting a team of visiting education officials from Vientiane to learn more about this model. The Franks Family Foundation has been a key backer of this initiative and has worked closely with H.E. Dr. Hang Chuon Naron, Minister of Education, Youth, and Sport to promote this important national educational reform to as many schools as possible.
