As part of KAPE’s support to the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport in implementing the Child Friendly School policy, schools set up Children’s councils, which help support children’s rights to participation. Students volunteer to stand as candidates to represent the student body and on the student councils and help to run and organize activities to support the development of their schools. Each month the student councils meet to discuss which issues and activities they plan to do in the following months. Student Council activities help to provide students with opportunities to improve their leadership, interpersonal and communication skills, community involvement, team work and develop problem solving skills as well as helping the school to develop with active student participation.
