Interval Tests are formative evaluation mechanisms that mediate between the teaching of the benchmarks and the formal identification of children who have difficulty keeping up with other children. The interval test results below are found out and evaluated by KAPE's four projects including New Generation School (NGS), Happy Cambodian Children (HCC), Reinforcing Education Access with Community Help (REACH III) and Total Reading Approach for Children (TRAC III).

The Benchmarks are organized into intervals that last between 2 to 5 weeks. During and at the end of each interval, students take various Interval Tests that are provided in the Reading Benchmark Booklets. Each Interval Test is organized in a way so that teachers can pinpoint the specific benchmarks where children are having the most difficulty, which is then recorded in score registers and shared with parents.

In general, it is the expectation of teachers that the number of children scoring in the performance category will decrease from interval to interval so that eventually fewer than 10% of children are struggling with the acquisition of reading proficiency in Khmer.
