The final Parents’ Night Show in NGS sites occurred at Hun Sen Kampong Cham HS on 13 July 2019 with tearful presentations by students and a rousing speech from the Kampong Cham POE Director. This was final night for New Generation Schools to demonstrate to parents the high quality of learning achieved by schools receiving high investment from the Ministry of Education, Youth, and Sport. The events began at the end of last month at Prek Leap HS in Phnom Penh and were followed by other events at Preah Sisowath HS, Prek Anchanh HS (in Kandal), Kok Pring Jr. HS (in Svay Ring) and Peam Chikong HS (in Kampong Cham). The events at Prek Leap and Prek Anchanh were the second time that such parents had attended these events and the response from parents was dramatic. At Preah Sisovath HS which is the biggest New Generation School, the students organized more than 160 exhibitions in STEM, Literature, and English. The school received a huge donation from parents of over $10,000 to pay for the event and also included exhibits from other high schools in the capital city. These Parent Night events are a dramatic example of the excellent work that Cambodian students are capable of as they display books they have written, coding that they have developed, and mechanical devices that they have constructed. The events also demonstrate that high Ministry investment in combination with excellent management by school administrators and teachers is having a major impact on the standards of quality in the public school system.
