Transforming Education and Daily Life Through AI Literacy
In an era of rapid technological evolution, future readiness is essential. Ms. Timsampath Solika, a Grade 10B student at Sangke High School located in Battambang province, has emerged as a standout role model following her participation in the AI Ready ASEAN project (AI RAP). Previously, Ms. Solika was a standard internet user, relying on Google and YouTube for basic information retrieval. However, after completing the "AI Literacy Training," she has transformed into a smart, confident, and ethical technology user.
The training opened Ms. Solika's eyes to the reality that AI is neither overly complex nor something to be feared; rather, it is a tool designed to enhance human thinking and learning. She grasped core concepts regarding how AI functions, debunked common misconceptions, and, most importantly, learned the ethics of safe usage.
The positive impact of this AI literacy training is evident through four key areas:
1) Academic Efficiency and Research: Solika no longer spends hours sifting through unverified data. She now uses AI as an assistant to summarize lessons, understand complex topics, and brainstorm new academic concepts. This allows her to learn faster and dedicate more time to deep analysis.
2) Knowledge Sharing: Recognizing that AI teaching resources in Cambodia are still limited, Solika has committed herself to being a "Digital Ambassador" in her community. She shares her knowledge with friends and relatives, bridging the gap so they too can understand how AI facilitates daily tasks.
3) Creativity in Daily Life: Beyond academics, Ms. Solika applies AI to solve everyday problems and fuel creative projects. She clearly understands that while machines cannot be inherently smarter than humans, they can empower humans to work smarter.
4) Readiness for ASEAN and the World: Ms. Solika views the AI Ready ASEAN project as a crucial stepping stone. Mastering AI today means securing a seat at the table for future jobs and opportunities as the world advances relentlessly.
Ms. Timsambat Solika is not just a bright student; she represents the new generation of Cambodian youth—those who embrace technology, use it responsibly, and possess the will to share knowledge for social progress. Her success stands as a testament that "AI Literacy" is the key to unlocking the future.
"Learning AI Literacy is one of the most valuable opportunities for us as Cambodian youth, especially since expert resources available to teach us are still rare. I want to send a message to all students: AI is not something complicated or scary that is here to replace us. Instead, it is a powerful partner that helps us learn faster, work easier, and create everything with unlimited creativity," said Ms. Timsampath Solika, feeling confident.
She continues that "AI isn't smarter than humans but knowing how to use it makes us more capable. Don't fear it—use it to evolve."
The AI Ready ASEAN project (AI RAP) is implemented by KAPE in collaboration with the Department of Digital Transformation (DDT) of the Ministry of Education, Youth and Sport. It is Led by the ASEAN Foundation and supported by Google.org, it is a regional program established to promote Artificial Intelligence (AI) literacy and coding through the "Hour of Code," a global movement to introduce computer science to people of all ages. The project aims to make coding and AI simple, fun, and accessible for students, teachers, parents, and communities across ASEAN countries.
