KAPE seeks 8 candidates to fill the positions of Province-based Mentors in 6 provincial locations

Kampuchea Action to Promote Education (KAPE), a local NGO based in Kampong Cham, seeks national candidates to fill the positions of Province-based Mentors in 6 provincial locations required as noted below. These positions will work in the Happy Cambodian Children Project or HCC, which has annual funding of about $1.5 million each year with an open-ended time frame of 10 to 20 years. HCC is implemented by KAPE, which is a well-established local NGO specializing in educational development with a portfolio of 21 on-going projects across Cambodia and an annual funding portfolio of about $5 million. KAPE has been chosen as the partner agency of the Kinchan Foundation, which funds HCC. HCC uses an integrated project design to support 70 state primary schools and is implemented in close cooperation with District and Provincial Offices of Education in 8 target provinces. This project is currently in its 7th year of operation and is embarking on a rapid expansion of project sites, 2024 being the first year of the expansion.

 

Project-Based Mentors will be responsible for increasing the quality of student learning outcomes at primary school level in 70 target schools in Siem Reap, Banteay Meanchey, Kratie, Stung Treng, Ratanakiri, and Tboung Khmum. The salary scale for these full-time positions will range from $600-$700 based on previous background.

Staff Locations: 2 posts in Siem Reap; 1 post in Banteay Meanchey; 1 post in Kratie; 1 post in Strng Treng; 2 posts in Ratanak Kiri; and 1 post in Tboung Khmum.

 

SPECIFIC TASKS

  1. Provide pedagogical advice to state teachers and contract teachers.
  2. Train teachers on helping students with special learning needs to achieve proficiency in both reading (and mathematics).
  3. Under the supervision of a Senior Mentor, organize a school-based mentoring program (in each school) that involves classroom observations, remote observations (using the Observic Mentoring Platform), individualized teacher conferencing, support for teacher career path planning, and archiving videos of teacher practice so that teachers can see how their practice has evolved.
  4. Conduct meetings with parents and students to promote reading.
  5. Visit families with students who have difficulty learning.
  6. Work with schools to mobilize resources to purchase books, teaching materials, and other work.
  7. Help the school to use creative activities to promote reading, such as peer tutoring, study clubs, etc.
  8. Organize reflections on technical work with stakeholders.
  9. Make a monthly plan that outlines tech support activities focused on student proficiency in literacy and numeracy.
  10. Facilitate technical meetings at cluster level in collaboration with District-based Monitoring Teams (DTMTs).
  11. Assist in the administration of EGRA and EGMA tests as part of baseline, midline, and endline assessments.
  12. Attend program-wide meetings as might be requested by the Program Manager

 

Requirements:

  1. Master’s Degree or equivalent in Education (Graduates of the prestigious New Generation Pedagogical Research Center at NIE are encouraged to apply).
  2. 2-3 years’ experience of working in the education sector as a teacher/outstanding teacher.
  3. Ability to relate well to Government counterparts
  4. Demonstrated ability to engage and mentor key stakeholders.
  5. Ability to travel to target schools by themselves with motorbike/other vehicles.
  6. Previous experience in Child Friendly School interventions at primary level.
  7. Ability to communicate in English is an advantage
  8. Ability to use Microsoft Office, e.g., Word and Excel
